There are moments with my children that cause me to stop in complete awe.  The shear fact that I had a part in creating a life is a miracle. However, to get those special moments where I am shown the magnificence of who they are in character, personality and heart is beyond amazing.  I consider myself a very good mom, but each child is uniquely designed by God and for that I do not take credit. It was a day I was having a hard day personally.  I was dealing with some deep emotional hurts. I was in the midst of cleaning, when my husband and I went into our room where we talked and I shared and cried about what was on my heart.  My son, J.J., 10 years old at the time, had some friends over.  He came to our door to ask a question and we asked to have a few minutes.  After we finished and left the room, I went back to the cleaning I had started.

J.J. came over to me and asked my why my eyes were red. I have always been honest with my children about feelings and emotions and I said, “I am just having a hard day and I am very sad, but Dad and I talked and I feel better.”  He said with a concerned voice, “OK” and then left the room.

About 5 minutes later, he came over, took the broom out of my hand and said with an all-too-mature voice, “Mom, how about you take a break and we play a game?”  I was so moved and nearly in tears.  I became so aware of his naturally deep compassion and concern for others.

We played Scrabble with his friends, laughed and had a great time.

That is one moment I will cherish forever.
